Manor Dollhouse Update, some help too!

I need some help with ideas for the display,

Should I put plates and cups or a collection of nick naks?

I thought I could display things from travels or would more traditional items be better.

This dollhouse is a modern house.

As you may know things are bad in Greece, and everyday things get harder and more uncertain.

In my previous post I mentioned that I would be doing some mini thereapy, well here it is.

let have a look at what is inside......

This reminds me of the the Cricket and the Ant story, now that it is 'winter' I am using the minis I have collected in the 'summer'. The beautiful furniture are by Masters Miniatures. I bought them at the Kensignton Dollhouse Festival. Heidi and her husband are such a wonderful people. The room wasn't ready, hence the delay to display them.

It's a bit bare at the moment, cabinet needs filling, flowers on table, plants in the room, a rug, pictures.......

Mediterranean and a Giveaway!

Here it is! After a very windy weekend and snow yesterday, I got a good day to take pictures of the house with its exterior completed.

The front door with plants I have made in the past. But dying to make some geraniums!

The chimney, can you see the similar roof of our next door neighbour in the backround?

The veranda, I plan a couple of plants to go over the pergolas.

I want to make changes on the coffee table, just not sure what yet.

I plan to make the cushion for the bench, some decor for the walls.

I turned blue!

Here is a sneak preview of the house, the doors and windows were blue. So I sanded them and briefly looked like a smurf with blue dust everywhere! Then painted them white. The look is similar to those seen in the Cyclades (see picture below), I have set a goal to have pictures of the exterior by this weekend.

I have been working on the exterior of the mediterranean. The changed look of the house will resemble the Greek island houses you see on the Cyclades. White washed walls and blue window shutters.

Yesterday my 2nd daughter , Kathryn was in the 5th grade play '' The Quest for Courage'' , the whole grade prepared everything, Kathryn was also one of the stage managers. The play has been written by 5th graders in the past. My son Manoli was one of the writers then, his part in the play was Sir Know-it-all . Kathryn was princess Clothlide.

What can I say : A very proud mum! :)

Mediterranean Kitchen Walls

I finished the walls today, its been taking long to finish the project as looking after the kids and hubby take most of my time. I mentioned the way I made these in this blog entry earlier.

The flowers are from a kit from Pascale Garnier, I havent decorated it it yet or added any other items as I wanted just to show you what I have completed so far. Once I have finished the whole house I will start to add the details, most of which has been in storage for years.

I have been working on it and should have some pics very soon. Meanwhile here is a small climpse of the bathroom.

I redecorated the mirrors of the collection of this house. They were brown frames, I painted it them cream and then added gold leaf and tried to distress the look.

The floor tiles were an idea from Brae at Otterine ,She guided me to find these, thank you for the help Brae!

Its been a long time.....

Its been crazy with no time for hobbies, but here is an update on some of the things that have been going on. I started this week a tiled wall project, this involved taking watercolour paper to paint with acrylics in these shades Vanilla, Napoli yellow, pistachio, pale olive, sienna and powder blue. Each sheet had about 3 of these shades in various combinations. Brush strokes, sponge painting, blowing streaks of the watery version of the colours. Then each sheet was cut into 1 cm by 1 cm squares and glued to my 'wall'. Not sure if I will like the result but here is what I have done so far. I found Josje tutorial very helpful, wish me luck.

I bought these beads at the KDF ( wish I got more....) The gold ones had holes that I added glass paint with a toothpick. Once dried I added the gold top.

Kensington Dollhouse Festival Dec 2010

Just returned from London, absolutely thrilled! I attended my first dollhouse show and I am filled with awe, inspiration and delight. After 10 years of seeing miniatures on the screen I was able to see people's wonderful work in person. I am absolutely going to try to go again. The weather was perfect, no snow, I was a bit worried as the BBC news in Greece painted such a bad picture.

I got to meet Georgina Steeds, a wonderfully warm and friendly lady and saw her plants face to face positively gorgeous. She has a new blog you can now get her news on fairs, workshops and kits.

Anthoula was also there, both of us smiling from ear to ear, she is returning on Monday and cant wait to meet her for coffee and share our experience.

Today the kids will be at school and I will take pictures of the miniatures I was able to purchase. As I am sure everyone has had this: there were a lot more that I wanted to purchase, far too many temptetions ,lol! I was glad I had a list with various options and kept to it.

Thank you KDF organisers it was a wonderful experience!

What can I say, I am crazy about mini flowers! Its another entry about them..... I have a huge garden to fill for the Manor dollhouse, hopefully I wont bore you with the same topic. In the picture below there are iceland poppies, the ones in pots might be offered for sale at etsy. The plants in the styrofoam are for the garden and the daffodil is a gift. I am planning to make one more daffodil for a giveaway at this blog , I have almost 100 followers! Thank you to all that follow this blog. I am also in the process of developing my own plants to offer for sale, any suggestions on plants would be appreciated.

After 2 years and a move I finally finished the exterior of the Manor. Still window boxes to be made and to be placed on the basement. First , I have to finish the wall papering and lighting. Keeping fingers crossed it can be lifted with care.

I was inspired by a house decorating magazine to add orange poppie to this room. I found Berties wonderful vases at ebay, (also sells at etsy) I thought these are perfect for this room. So here are the results.

This is the whole room so far, still many things to add some to change. Books to make, a carpet, a bowl for the coffee table, more pictures and decor for the walls.......

This gorgeous picture is from Amber I liked this art from my teenage years in Dublin, so when I saw it I had to have it. I must say it has surpassed my expectations, its very beautifully made , the frame is very carefully made with details, thank you Amber.

The platforms are from silver fimo I made them to look like the ones we get in the cake shops in Greece.

I met Anthoula yesterday for coffee and I had such a wonderful time talking with her. We decided to swap in our first meeting, and I must say I feel thoroughly spoiled. She gave me these gorgeous and yummy sweets, which I plan to make a cake shop for. The details are amazing! She was also very kind to give each of my girls super accessories, donuts, chocolates and lollypop. They have gone to school with them today, some in their hair others around their neck :)

Mediterranean Decor

Inspired by this picture I decided to make a decoration for the Mediterranean house.

I took some thin wire (26) and shaped it to the pattern I designed, see below.For the 'fleur-de-lis' I used a card to punch out the shape and glued to the wires. Then painted it black and a coating of matt varnish to simulate iron wrought.

I have been working on a new dollhouse lately, its a weekly magazine with parts of the dollhouse kit and furniture. Just past the 65th week, so started to assemble it. Here is a sneak peak :) More pictures soon....

The picture above shows the left side of the dollhouse and the life size wall in the backround. I used Just Walnut from Dulux and sand. I am very pleased with the result. The second picture is the front of the dollhouse.

I have not decided on the type of roof yet. There are the individual shingles or the fiberglass sheets.....

Paints and dollhouses

I decided to use dulux paints for my dollhouse. So, I went to their site to see what colours co-ordinate the stone paper already on the basement of the Manor.

At dulux I also found a fun feature that helps you visualize your project. Perfect for modern settings and mixing colours on walls, ceilings etc. My Local store also sells the little sample bottles, so you don't have to go and purchase the giant 2.5L products.

The exterior is going to be either Cornflower White or Just Walnut with accents of white for the windows and doors. I plan to add sand to the paint to make it look like the walls at our real house. I think its called pebble-dash finish.

Sedum
Trivia: The term "Sedum" is taken from the Latin word "sedo" meaning 'to sit'. This probably refers to their generally ground-covering nature and the way they tend 'to sit' on rocks, walls and other seemingly uninviting places. Inspiration from magazines

These magazines are a great inspiration for me and many times I have wanted to convert these settings into miniature scenes. When dealing with contemporary settings its hard to find miniature furniture in this style, although there are a few artisans that do. So most of these have to be made from scratch. So far, I have only made a few single items but would love to work on a whole scene. I am working on an idea for a greenhouse, that will be a sitting area.

Experimented with a new flower ~ Anemonies

Anemone (A-ne-mó-ne, from the Gr. Άνεμος, wind), is a genus of about 120 species of flowering plants in the buttercup family Ranunculaceae in the north and south temperate zones.

Trivia:

Mythology: It is said that the goddess Flora was jealous of her husband's attentions towards the nymph Anemone and so transformed her into the wind flower and left her at the mercy of the North Wind.
Medicinal: Used for cramping pains, menstrual problems and emotional distress.
Colour: Vibrant shades of red, purple and pink, with jet black hearts ringed with white. The all-white anemone is rare, it has a yellow-green heart.

Matching wall lights

Made the wall lights with the same fabric, these were candle wall lights from Dollhouse Emporium , I just added the shade and cord to them.

Handmade Lamp shade

Finished making my lamp. The lamp shade is made with fabric and trimmed with white thread that I made into a cord. The light was a plain dollhouse light that with a little DIY looks much brighter ; If you'll pardon the pun :) . The 'cup' at the top was made using white fimo. I am making two smaller ones for the back wall. All I need to find now, is a transormer for Europe that will light it.

I did my first Ikebana in miniature, I am no expert in the art of Ikebana but did try to follow the rules in a book I read. The arrangement has two magnolias, ivy leaves, Caladium leaves and yellow Forsynthia.
